VOLUNTEERSHIP PROGRAM

The NTWAM is in the effort of consolidating and expand its services to reach out more beneficiaries across the country. However, there are various challenges facing the Organization in implementing the aspirations that include, but not limited to, the following:
              (i)    Inadequate professional staff to provide services to most of the field of specializations in the focus areas.
              (ii)   In some highly specialized professional fields, reputable expatriates are required.
              (iii)  Potential large base clientele.
Besides NTWAM has been receiving many applications from people inside and outside the country asking for volunteering. Many of these applicants have skills needed at NTWAM. Therefore, there is a need to embark on volunteer-ship programme in order to get mutual benefit for the Organization and the volunteer.

NTWAM recognizes the added value that volunteers will bring to the organisation. Volunteer involvement in NTWAM does not replace or devalue the role of the paid staff. NTWAM aims to have a reciprocal and mutually beneficial relationship with its volunteers. The volunteer will be involved in bringing new skills and developments to the Organization while at the same time the volunteers will be working at an environment which will enable them to learn and achieve personal development through their volunteering.
The involvement of volunteers will be guided by the following principles of good practice:
               (i)   The tasks to be performed by volunteers will be clearly defined, so that everyone is sure of their respective roles and responsibilities;
               (ii)  NTWAM will comply with the Data Protection Act in the use of data held on all volunteers;
               (iii) Volunteering opportunities will complement rather than replace the work of paid staff; and
              (iv) Volunteers will be provided with regular opportunities to share ideas/concerns with a named contact in line with our Support and                          Supervision.

VOLUNTEER’S TESTMONIAL

Eng. Arone Peter Mbega

“When I learned that the NTWAM Water & Environment Initiative (NTWAM) was offering a specialized training on Rating Curve Development, I knew I had to attend. What I didn’t expect was the chance to participate as a trainee cum volunteer—and that made all the difference.

As a Hydrologist at the Pangani Basin Water Board, I deal with data every day. But this training, held from November 24–30, 2025, gave me something my formal education couldn’t: the chance to learn alongside experts while also contributing as a volunteer. The facilitators didn’t just lecture—they mentored. They challenged us to apply modern computational tools, analyze data with rigor, and solve real problems facing our basin.

Volunteering allowed me to go deeper. I helped peers work through challenges, facilitated discussions, and saw how NTWAM’s collaborative model turns individual learning into collective growth. That week didn’t just enhance my technical skills—it renewed my commitment to data integrity and sustainable water management.

NTWAM is doing more than building capacity; they are building leaders. I am proud to recommend them and grateful for the opportunity to have been both a trainee and a contributor to their vital mission.”

Dr. Julian Lucas Kimario

I am a Lecturer at the University of Dar es Salaam Business School, and I had the honor of participating in the Water Security Scan for Ruvu and Coast Catchments in the Wami–Ruvu Basin, conducted by NTWAM Water & Environment Initiative.

Working with NTWAM was an outstanding experience. Their professionalism, technical expertise, and visionary leadership shone through in every part of the project. NTWAM united academia, government, and private sector partners with exceptional collaboration, setting a new benchmark for water and environmental consulting in Tanzania.

Their dedication to quality, innovation, and capacity building deeply impressed me. NTWAM not only delivered rigorous scientific results but also fostered mentorship and teamwork that inspired excellence throughout the team.

I wholeheartedly praise NTWAM for its remarkable contribution to improving water security, climate resilience, and sustainable development in Tanzania. Their efforts are both transformative and exemplary.
